what i've been up to...

just wanted to write an quick update about what's been going around here...

i cannot believe the month of september is over. it seems to have come and gone and i'm not entirely sure where it went. it was a busy month. mostly spent trying to figure out what my daily life is supposed to look like, at school and outside of school. things went well.

this picture is of me and my dear friend, christan. i originally met christan last year at cypress creek church in korea. we have a dear, mutual, friend, katie, who left us last month... we both miss katie desperately, but i'm so thankful for my friendship with christan, she is one amazing woman. --in this picture we were at taekwondo watching our friend hillary test for her blue belt! (she passed!)

i had to administer my first birthday party at school. it was david's birthday. one of the korean teachers comes in, sets up the table and takes a gazillion, posed photos. the rest of the time is spent opening presents, eating cake and snacks. it went pretty well, especially for my first one. now know what i will and wont be doing next time around!

we had a random day off of school last week. it was much needed. especially after this birthday party! i went into seoul to a place called itaewon with my friend, naomi. we went to a book store that sells English books- new and used. then we went to one of my favourite places- the wolfhound. we ordered french fries that come with amazing garlic mayo and i had to drink a guinness..
we're already starting to discuss halloween at school, which seems incredible that it's that time of the year already. we have a big festival for the kindergartners for halloween. we all dress up, pass out candy, have a haunted house, and all the classes have to learn a "halloween" song... my kids are doing "Ding Dong! The Witch is Dead" from the wizard of oz. they think it's pretty hilarious. i am also needing to decorate my classroom.. i ran an idea past my kids.. and they are game. on the bulletin board we're making a big witch with a big cauldron. we said that "stefanie teacher" was going to be the witch and that all of them were going to be inside the cauldron! so last week i took "scary" pictures of each of the kids to put on the bulletin board.
this is my little stephanie. this was my favourite out of all the photos that i took of the kids. she's hilarious. she likes to put her long hair over her face and to act like a ghost. it's quite a riot.

there hasn't been much else going on... the biggest news is that ruth and jody are back in korea after their honeymoon in eastern europe! i'm very happy to have them back in suji. it will be nice to have them so close for the next year. they are still settling into their apartment, and adjusting to the time difference, but they seem to be doing well.

my birthday is in only four days and i find that very hard to believe. it doesnt feel like it's been a year since my last birthday. i also dont feel like i'm 25 years old. it's funny how much that can really mess with your mind. i dont think age matters much, but for some reason i am pretty freaked out about turning 25. i think mostly cuz God's just taken my world and turned it upside down... i just never expected to be in korea on my 25th birthday. (or on my 24th for that matter.) i am so thankful that i am here.. it's just sometimes crazy to think about the journeys that God takes us on and how sometimes they're not anything that you would have dreamed of...
i'm gonna end with this photo of myself, ruth and jody. we went to a soccer game in suwon this past weekend. it was suwon's last home game for the season. it was a lot of fun. our friend got us free passes into the game, so we felt pretty cool. i have never really watched too much soccer before moving to korea, but i must admit that i have enjoyed being here and experiencing it in a country that so dearly loves their korean teams. the fans are amazing! i love being in the midst of it.

while i'm talking about sports- i finally got to watch purdue play football today! too bad it was against ohio state and they didnt do so well. however, it really made my day. what a way to start the day! it was so fun to see ads from the states.. and locally at purdue! (go bruno's pizza!) it tore a little bit at my heart and made me really wish i was at purdue cheering for my boilermakers! but like i keep saying, i know i'm where i'm supposed to be..

texts.

some of my fave texts that i have received while living in england: "there's a program on irish tv tonight called 'death or canada'. i wish i had the energy to stay up and watch it. i may have some tshirts made." "Worse." "Than." "Hitler." "That's bad news bears, my friend. I hope your magic shirts are keeping you warm." "Because we're celebrating Christmas time, leave your shoes out at half past nine. Leave them out until half past ten. Santa should have been by then. (i know what you're thinking, 'why is sarah in bible college when she is so gifted in the literary technique of rhyming?)" "You make me feel. You make me feel. You make me feel like a natural woman." "Should be fun on a bun!" "And stay off the circle line. It is an instrument of the devil." "I'd love a bottle of fruit loops right about now." "I've never seen a movie that...

Expectancy

We have the following Bible verses written on a chalkboard above our kitchen sink: Because of God's tender mercy, the morning light from heaven is about to break upon us, to give light to those who sit in darkness & in the shadow of death, & to guide us to the path of peace. Luke 1:78-78 NLT I chose to write out these verses for a few reasons. First of all, I like the picture it illustrates of God's mercy & how ultimately his mercy & light lead us to peace. Second, these verses speak of hope to me. They say that even in darkness & death there is hope! And last, it reminds me to live every day with expectancy. It says that heaven "is about" to break upon us; it's almost foreshadowing God's faithfulness. I've been thinking about this third point a lot lately. Expectancy. What does it mean? What does it look like? I think I've referenced it before, but I'm reading a book that's written specifically for people in a time of ...
