sunday night thoughts-

Blessed be the name of the Lord
Blessed be Your name,
Blessed be the name of the Lord
Blessed be Your glorious name..

i find myself sitting in my apartment on this rainy sunday night having a million different things going through my head. since coming back to korea, my life has been somewhat of a roller coaster. it has been good, but it hasnt been the easy transition that i had thought it would be. there are a few things that are similar to last year, but there are a lot of differences that i wasnt expecting and i am having issues with the transition.

during your first year in korea, the 'veteran' english teachers will tell you that living in korea is sort of like a cycle. if you know anything about culture shock, there's actually some sort of truth behind these statements. for people in korea, usually the first three months are pretty exciting cuz everything is new, but that's when the transition is the hardest, which is obvious. when you hit the sixth month mark- it's an accomplishment, but yet another hard time. for some people they really get home sick, other people start thinking about staying longer. it's quite a time of uncertainty for most. the next transition, i think, comes at the ten month mark. i think between your sixth and tenth month is the most fun. i think you've truly started to live in your surroundings and you're hopefully enjoying it. once the tenth month comes, that's when the future lingers on the forefront. people decide whether or not to say longer, people make travel plans, people plan to move back home. i think it's pretty safe to say that most people who have taught in korea for a year or longer would agree with most of the above.

what i am struggling with is... what does year two/three look like? i was in korea for 17 months before i left... now i'm definitely here for another 12... is the transition the same? do you have the same emotions? do you deal with the same things? i am sure that a lot of it depends on the people and their situations. it depends on if you're at the same school, or living in the same city... there are a lot of factors that go into things like this... and a lot of times it just really depends on the person. people handle change so differently.

one constant i have had from last year to this year is my relationship with God. He's so faithful. i've only been back for two months, but He's already teaching me so much. i know that this year isnt going to be a continuation of last year, it couldnt possibly be, and why would i want it to be? in order to grow there needs to be change and transition. i definitely dont want to remain in the same place, so i have to be open to these changes.

Blessed be Your name
On the road marked with suffering,
Though there's pain in the offering
Blessed be Your name...

i was really inspired by so many things today. sunday's are long days, but they are good days. i have been learning so much at church and meeting so many amazing people. it has been so great. i am anxious to see where God is going to take me this year. i am curious to see whom He brings into my life and i am excited to continually learn more about Him and grow in Him.

You give and take away
You give and take away
My heart will choose to say
Lord, blessed be Your name...

some of my fave texts that i have received while living in england: "there's a program on irish tv tonight called 'death or canada'. i wish i had the energy to stay up and watch it. i may have some tshirts made." "Worse." "Than." "Hitler." "That's bad news bears, my friend. I hope your magic shirts are keeping you warm." "Because we're celebrating Christmas time, leave your shoes out at half past nine. Leave them out until half past ten. Santa should have been by then. (i know what you're thinking, 'why is sarah in bible college when she is so gifted in the literary technique of rhyming?)" "You make me feel. You make me feel. You make me feel like a natural woman." "Should be fun on a bun!" "And stay off the circle line. It is an instrument of the devil." "I'd love a bottle of fruit loops right about now." "I've never seen a movie that...

We're all moved in!

Expectancy

We have the following Bible verses written on a chalkboard above our kitchen sink: Because of God's tender mercy, the morning light from heaven is about to break upon us, to give light to those who sit in darkness & in the shadow of death, & to guide us to the path of peace. Luke 1:78-78 NLT I chose to write out these verses for a few reasons. First of all, I like the picture it illustrates of God's mercy & how ultimately his mercy & light lead us to peace. Second, these verses speak of hope to me. They say that even in darkness & death there is hope! And last, it reminds me to live every day with expectancy. It says that heaven "is about" to break upon us; it's almost foreshadowing God's faithfulness. I've been thinking about this third point a lot lately. Expectancy. What does it mean? What does it look like? I think I've referenced it before, but I'm reading a book that's written specifically for people in a time of ...
