music.

i find that i go through seasons with how i feel about music. if you know me, you know i love music and music has always been something i've connected with. so it's been interesting that this past year or so, i've really not been feeling the whole 'music' thing. and i dont mean that i've stopped listening to music; i just havent been as interested in it.

while living in korea, music was something that God really used to speak to me. it was like i would blast hillsong in my apartment and feel safe and loved. i would really love waking up on sundays in anticipation for singing with others at lifechurch. music would make me cry. it would make me think. it would turn me to God. it would be an outlet. (especially if nori-bong was included- korean style karaoke)

but i cant say that has been true as of late. i definitely still listen to music. i'm definitely still interested in what's 'new' or finding music that isnt so mainstream. but i havent been connecting with it as much. it's like i would listen, and enjoy, but it wouldnt move me. and i could tell that it wasnt because of the quality of music i was listening to; it was something with me. something inside of me has changed and the way that i interpret the music has changed.

with all of that said, it has all changed again this past week. i am connecting with music again. it is something i am enjoying again; however, it's different. it's not like it was. it seems like there are a few artists that i just cant get enough of and anything outside of that very small circle doesnt cut it right now.

i sort of wonder if any of this mirrors sort of where i am at with God right now. (i know this is a stretch) but i've found my relationship with God is obviously evolving. that's what it does and that's what you HOPE it does. i have found that what used to work for me, doesnt anymore. i am finding that i have this 'very small circle' of ways that i can truly connect with God and anything outside of that just isnt enough. is it maturing? is it just different circumstances? no matter, it's something i find myself thinking about.

it's maturity, dear one. we see what is truly real and what is going to fade away.. and we don't want to settle for less than the eternal. press in, friend! i pray the Lord meets you in those few deep places.

love you.

texts.

some of my fave texts that i have received while living in england: "there's a program on irish tv tonight called 'death or canada'. i wish i had the energy to stay up and watch it. i may have some tshirts made." "Worse." "Than." "Hitler." "That's bad news bears, my friend. I hope your magic shirts are keeping you warm." "Because we're celebrating Christmas time, leave your shoes out at half past nine. Leave them out until half past ten. Santa should have been by then. (i know what you're thinking, 'why is sarah in bible college when she is so gifted in the literary technique of rhyming?)" "You make me feel. You make me feel. You make me feel like a natural woman." "Should be fun on a bun!" "And stay off the circle line. It is an instrument of the devil." "I'd love a bottle of fruit loops right about now." "I've never seen a movie that...

Expectancy

We have the following Bible verses written on a chalkboard above our kitchen sink: Because of God's tender mercy, the morning light from heaven is about to break upon us, to give light to those who sit in darkness & in the shadow of death, & to guide us to the path of peace. Luke 1:78-78 NLT I chose to write out these verses for a few reasons. First of all, I like the picture it illustrates of God's mercy & how ultimately his mercy & light lead us to peace. Second, these verses speak of hope to me. They say that even in darkness & death there is hope! And last, it reminds me to live every day with expectancy. It says that heaven "is about" to break upon us; it's almost foreshadowing God's faithfulness. I've been thinking about this third point a lot lately. Expectancy. What does it mean? What does it look like? I think I've referenced it before, but I'm reading a book that's written specifically for people in a time of ...
