2008 Retrospective Musings.

1. Name something you would change about the past year.::i am not sure. looking back at this past year, i see lots of ups and downs, but i'm not sure i'd change any of it. perhaps, though, a good change would have been my attitude about teaching.
2. Name a goal/aspiration that you achieved this year.::i think the biggest thing i achieved was learning how to give up control of situations i had no control over and to trust that God knew what He was doing... AND that sometimes the process is just as important as the end result.

3. What was your scariest moment in 2008?
::getting my passport back from the British embassy with no student visa inside.
4. Invent a new boy band name.
::312

5. Which reality TV show would you like to be on?::i used to want to be on the "Real World" until i found out a lot of it was scripted and misconstrued... i think it would be fun to be on "What Not to Wear" or on some similar makeover where i can buy lots of new clothes show!
6. Which month was your favourite and why?::probably august because i started the month in india and finished the month with my last days at work in korea. plus the weather was grossly hot.
7. What world event impacted you the most and why?
::i think the whole economic "crisis" has impacted me the most, because it's changing the entire world and it's made me take a step back and look at how people are living their lives (especially Americans).

8. Name a goal/aspiration that you didn't achieve this year.
::i think i wanted a clearer direction as to what my future is going to look like and if anything, this is the most unclear i've ever been.

::the only book that i've never finished was "False Memory" by Dean Koontz. it was too disturbing.

::kimchi, although koreans would probably love it! wasabi would be gross, as well.

::probably fresh mango juice, yorkshire pudding, parsnips and palak paneer curry.

13. Invent a new use for Spam.
::putty to create things for the cranium game.

14. Name something you'd like to see happen in 2009.::for me personally, i'd like to gain a bit of direction as to my future. and on a bigger scale, i'd like to see people learn from this economic "crisis" and actually start making changes for the future, globally.

15. Are you any good at telling jokes? What's your favourite one?
::i am not good at telling jokes. although, i find this one hilarious...
Q:
How many women with PMS does it take to change a light bulb?

Woman's Answer:
One!
ONLY ONE!!!! And do you know WHY? Because no one else in this house knows HOW to change a light bulb! They don't even know that the bulb is BURNED OUT!! They would sit in the dark for THREE DAYS before they figured it out. And, once they figured it out, they wouldn't be able to find the #&%!* light bulbs despite the fact that they've been in the SAME CABINET for the past 17 YEARS! But if they did, by some miracle of God, actually find them, 2 DAYS LATER, the chair they dragged to stand on to change the STUPID light bulb would STILL BE IN THE SAME SPOT!!!!! AND UNDERNEATH IT WOULD BE THE WRAPPER
THE FREAKING LIGHT BULBS CAME IN!!! BECAUSE NO ONE EVER PICKS UP OR CARRIES OUT THE GARBAGE!!!! IT'S A WONDER WE HAVEN'T ALL SUFFOCATED FROM THE PILES OF GARBAGE THAT ARE A FOOT DEEP THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRE HOUSE!! IT WOULD TAKE AN ARMY TO CLEAN THIS PLACE! AND DON'T EVEN GET ME STARTED ON WHO CHANGES THE TOILET PAPER ROLL !!

I'm sorry. What was the question?

16. Describe your most exciting moment in 2008.
::when i realised i was going to be able to go back to korea for a week before going to england.

18. What death impacted you this year?
::heath ledger dying was a bit strange, mostly cuz i watched the batman movie after he died and it was eerie. also my dad's dog getting put to sleep was a bit more impacting than i thought it would be.

19. If you were a tree, what kind would you be and why?
::a new zealand redwood tree, because they are tall and they live in a beautiful country.

20. Would you rather have horns or a tail? (assuming you HAD to pick one!)
::i think a tail. and i have no idea why.

21. What's the cheesiest love song ever written that you secretly love?
::hmmm... i do love Al Green "let's stay together" and Peter Gabriel "in your eyes"

::not necessarily new to the music world, but new to me: phil wickham, the weepies, tenth avenue north, and tree63

24. What's the coolest place that you visited or the coolest thing that you saw this year?
::i think being in the foothills of the himalayas probably wins... although the philippines rank up there, and seeing big ben in london was surreal.

::i would name it "The Majestic" and i would put a frog prince on the front of the ship.

26. If you could wake up tomorrow and be fluent in any second language, which would you choose and why?
::this is a tough one.. but think i'd have to go with spanish cuz there are a lot of spanish-speaking countries i'd like to visit.

::good question. also why dont they have "bam!" or "pow!" conversation bubbles anymore?! or funny sayings like, "holy bill of rights, batman!" maybe christian bale is just too good for that sort of shenanigans.

::probably my stuffed animal that's a dog with floppy ears. i still have it.

29. If you have kids will you encourage them to believe in Santa? What about the Easter Bunny? Jesus?
::Jesus, yes. the other two, i'm not sure. i think i'd maybe try to create something special for each of those holidays, but perhaps not encourage the commericalism of it all. maybe my future spouse will have more thoughts on the matter.

30. Choose one colour to delete from existence and justify picking that one.
::purple cuz it's ugly.

37. Pick your own Groundhog Day of 2008.
::May 4th & 5th. i was in seoul with 3 girlfriends, we stayed at a hostel over night.. ate mexican food, stuck our feet in a tank of dead skin-eating fish and sang our hearts out until the wee hours of the morning. pure brilliance. bonds were made.

38. Write an 11th Commandment.
::Love your enemies.

some of my fave texts that i have received while living in england: "there's a program on irish tv tonight called 'death or canada'. i wish i had the energy to stay up and watch it. i may have some tshirts made." "Worse." "Than." "Hitler." "That's bad news bears, my friend. I hope your magic shirts are keeping you warm." "Because we're celebrating Christmas time, leave your shoes out at half past nine. Leave them out until half past ten. Santa should have been by then. (i know what you're thinking, 'why is sarah in bible college when she is so gifted in the literary technique of rhyming?)" "You make me feel. You make me feel. You make me feel like a natural woman." "Should be fun on a bun!" "And stay off the circle line. It is an instrument of the devil." "I'd love a bottle of fruit loops right about now." "I've never seen a movie that...

Expectancy

We have the following Bible verses written on a chalkboard above our kitchen sink: Because of God's tender mercy, the morning light from heaven is about to break upon us, to give light to those who sit in darkness & in the shadow of death, & to guide us to the path of peace. Luke 1:78-78 NLT I chose to write out these verses for a few reasons. First of all, I like the picture it illustrates of God's mercy & how ultimately his mercy & light lead us to peace. Second, these verses speak of hope to me. They say that even in darkness & death there is hope! And last, it reminds me to live every day with expectancy. It says that heaven "is about" to break upon us; it's almost foreshadowing God's faithfulness. I've been thinking about this third point a lot lately. Expectancy. What does it mean? What does it look like? I think I've referenced it before, but I'm reading a book that's written specifically for people in a time of ...
