i wonder if you become wiser the older that you get and if you do, then is it mostly based on life experiences or do people actually change their perceptions and/or thinking-styles?
i would be lying if i would say that i was looking forward to my birthday this year. i was still traumatised from my 25th and i wasnt particularly looking forward to tacking another year onto my life. and that makes me a little bit sad. birthdays have always been a big thing in my family and it used to be a time that we'd come together as a family and just celebrate each other's lives. we have all sorts of traditions surrounding birthdays and so it was nice to at least be home for it.
for me, birthdays are a cause for reflection. i look back upon this past year and am amazed by so many things. a dear friend actually threw together a list of some of the things i have accomplished this past year (that's she's witnessed) and it was incredible to see how someone else has observed my life and watched me grow really without me knowing.
now that it's over, i can happily say that i am excited for a new age. 25 was rough and even though i am now officially closer to 30- i'm happy to be done with 25. i am also happy to be able to look into the mirror and like who i see. i have had a lot of experiences in these past 365 days; they have been good, bad, challenging, exhausting, terrifying and tragic, but most of all life-changing and ultimately exciting.
a random observation- i spent the day after my 25th birthday getting baptised at a church in korea. and i spent the day after my 26th birthday speaking about korea at a church in goshen.
i dont know what this next year has in store for me. i dont know what this next week has in store for me, but i find lots of peace and comfort knowing that God's got it under control. many people have asked if i have some goals i want to accomplish before 30 or even before 27 and i guess i would be lying if i said no... but ultimately, i'm enjoying living each day, having very little control and being open to whatever comes my way.
