hidden.

For the majority of this past year I have been doing a good job of hiding. You wouldn't necessarily agree with this from my somewhat frequent Facebook updates or my daily Instagram posts, but those things don't go deep enough to see my heart or read my mind.

I have to admit that coming home from Africa, planning a wedding, preparing for marriage and all of life in-between has been a bit overwhelming. I didn't know how to deal with it. It was hard to connect with people who understood. So my response was to hide. I've hid my true feelings and I've avoided deep conversations with people and all the while, I didn't realize that a small part of me was dying.

Thankfully there have been deep conversations here and there as well as a new found vulnerability within my marriage; however, I know that on a bigger scale so much of me is still hidden.

And this is my reason for writing today. Something inside of me snapped tonight. It's as if the part of me that was breathless and barely hanging on for life has been revived. I want to live!

So keep checking back for updates. I plan to reflect a little bit on this past year and sort through the cobwebs of my brain, but also want to share about life now and what our future holds.

Until then...

You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven. Matthew 5:14-16 ESV

"Worse." "Than." "Hitler." "That's bad news bears, my friend. I hope your magic shirts are keeping you warm." "Because we're celebrating Christmas time, leave your shoes out at half past nine. Leave them out until half past ten. Santa should have been by then. (i know what you're thinking, 'why is sarah in bible college when she is so gifted in the literary technique of rhyming?)" "You make me feel. You make me feel. You make me feel like a natural woman." "Should be fun on a bun!" "And stay off the circle line. It is an instrument of the devil." "I'd love a bottle of fruit loops right about now." "I've never seen a movie that...

We're all moved in!

Expectancy

We have the following Bible verses written on a chalkboard above our kitchen sink: Because of God's tender mercy, the morning light from heaven is about to break upon us, to give light to those who sit in darkness & in the shadow of death, & to guide us to the path of peace. Luke 1:78-78 NLT I chose to write out these verses for a few reasons. First of all, I like the picture it illustrates of God's mercy & how ultimately his mercy & light lead us to peace. Second, these verses speak of hope to me. They say that even in darkness & death there is hope! And last, it reminds me to live every day with expectancy. It says that heaven "is about" to break upon us; it's almost foreshadowing God's faithfulness. I've been thinking about this third point a lot lately. Expectancy. What does it mean? What does it look like? I think I've referenced it before, but I'm reading a book that's written specifically for people in a time of ...
