3 things...

wanted to share three things that God is using to speak into my life right now... (the names are links!)
  1. My Utmost for His Highest by Oswald Chambers: i read this devotional every day. i usually read the daily devotional at least 2-3 times to really let it soak in and each day when i take the time out to do this- God speaks. i've only read 20 pages so far and i can already see how his relaying of God's truth is impacting me.
  2. Radical by David Platt: another book; however, i purchased the audio cd's instead of the book (a first time for me!) and i have been listening to it during the 2 hours i spend in the car 4 days a week. admittedly, i have been taking it slow. this man can pack a lot of thought-provoking words into one sentence let alone a chapter. so i'm probably not even half-way yet, but i appreciate this pastor's honesty. i appreciate his desire for people, especially americans, to really take a hard look at Jesus' life and ask themselves have they missed the point? i definitely know that right now 'radical' is such a trendy word in the christian world, but this book is definitely asking a lot of the same questions that i'm asking and so it's been super helpful.
  3. Hallelujah by Heather Williams: a powerful song. the first time i ever heard it, i was actually sitting in my uncle's kitchen, working. it reminds me that i have a choice- in the midst of frustrations and struggle, am i going to continue to trust God or am i going to shut him out? here are some of the lyrics that have impacted me... "I have fallen so far, flat on my face, I'm in need of your grace today, I stumble and fall, but in spite of it all, your love always stays the same..." "On my knees here I fall, in spite of it all, Hallelujah, and thought it seems hard, I'm still trusting you Lord..."
and there ya have it- three things that are a part of my life at the moment.

texts.

some of my fave texts that i have received while living in england: "there's a program on irish tv tonight called 'death or canada'. i wish i had the energy to stay up and watch it. i may have some tshirts made." "Worse." "Than." "Hitler." "That's bad news bears, my friend. I hope your magic shirts are keeping you warm." "Because we're celebrating Christmas time, leave your shoes out at half past nine. Leave them out until half past ten. Santa should have been by then. (i know what you're thinking, 'why is sarah in bible college when she is so gifted in the literary technique of rhyming?)" "You make me feel. You make me feel. You make me feel like a natural woman." "Should be fun on a bun!" "And stay off the circle line. It is an instrument of the devil." "I'd love a bottle of fruit loops right about now." "I've never seen a movie that...

Expectancy

We have the following Bible verses written on a chalkboard above our kitchen sink: Because of God's tender mercy, the morning light from heaven is about to break upon us, to give light to those who sit in darkness & in the shadow of death, & to guide us to the path of peace. Luke 1:78-78 NLT I chose to write out these verses for a few reasons. First of all, I like the picture it illustrates of God's mercy & how ultimately his mercy & light lead us to peace. Second, these verses speak of hope to me. They say that even in darkness & death there is hope! And last, it reminds me to live every day with expectancy. It says that heaven "is about" to break upon us; it's almost foreshadowing God's faithfulness. I've been thinking about this third point a lot lately. Expectancy. What does it mean? What does it look like? I think I've referenced it before, but I'm reading a book that's written specifically for people in a time of ...
