it's time...

It's time for a blog post. A real one. From Africa!

I marvel at how quickly a place can feel like home. I feel like this feeling comes when you're truly in the right place at the right time. Things tend to settle quickly and life is just normal, even if you're in a new place with new people. I am so thankful for God's grace and for the gift of being able to adapt quickly!

I'm in my 7th week of lectures; we're just a little over half-way done! It doesn't seem real. Time is moving by so fast! Each week we have a new topic to cover in class as well as regularly scheduled activities. The weeks tend to fly by, because we have a lot to do. However, I'm equally surprised at how much free time I have. One of the things I have to do is take care of breakfast set-up and clean-up on Monday through Friday, so while other people are doing their work duties in the afternoons, I'm free! It's a wonderful. And since the weather is getting warmer, I've started spending a lot of my time outside; either at the beach or in our back garden. I love being able to just spend my afternoons reading, catching up on emails or hanging out with people. I really enjoy being able to take the time to slow down and just be.

Preparations are starting for our second leg of this DTS experience. The outreach phase. I'm staying in Africa for the 2-month long mission trip. Me and my team will be spending 2 weeks in Johannesburg, South Africa, 3 weeks in Pemba, Mozambique and 3 weeks in Mombasa, Kenya. I'm really looking forward to our trip! 3 years ago when I was in Morocco, I really felt like God showed me a small part of his heart for this great continent. It's such a beautiful place with such beautiful people. I'm really looking forward to seeing more of Africa and being a part of all of the work that God is doing here!

I think that I'm still in awe of how perfectly God works things out in his timing. Being in South Africa for this particular DTS is exactly where the Lord wants me right now. And I can't explain the peace and anticipation that I feel because of that. I'm just really grateful for a God who cares about the details and leads so perfectly. But I'm also thankful that he doesn't reveal everything at once. He tends to show you small pieces of the big picture one by one, because we couldn't handle the entire thing. It's just too good!

All of this to say... I'm alive. I'm very well. I'm super grateful for this season and I'm eagerly anticipating more from my time in Africa.

A scripture that keeps coming up lately: Trust in the Lord and do good. Then you will live safely in the land and prosper. Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you your heart’s desires. ~Psalm 37:3-4 NLT

some of my fave texts that i have received while living in england: "there's a program on irish tv tonight called 'death or canada'. i wish i had the energy to stay up and watch it. i may have some tshirts made." "Worse." "Than." "Hitler." "That's bad news bears, my friend. I hope your magic shirts are keeping you warm." "Because we're celebrating Christmas time, leave your shoes out at half past nine. Leave them out until half past ten. Santa should have been by then. (i know what you're thinking, 'why is sarah in bible college when she is so gifted in the literary technique of rhyming?)" "You make me feel. You make me feel. You make me feel like a natural woman." "Should be fun on a bun!" "And stay off the circle line. It is an instrument of the devil." "I'd love a bottle of fruit loops right about now." "I've never seen a movie that...

We're all moved in!

Expectancy

We have the following Bible verses written on a chalkboard above our kitchen sink: Because of God's tender mercy, the morning light from heaven is about to break upon us, to give light to those who sit in darkness & in the shadow of death, & to guide us to the path of peace. Luke 1:78-78 NLT I chose to write out these verses for a few reasons. First of all, I like the picture it illustrates of God's mercy & how ultimately his mercy & light lead us to peace. Second, these verses speak of hope to me. They say that even in darkness & death there is hope! And last, it reminds me to live every day with expectancy. It says that heaven "is about" to break upon us; it's almost foreshadowing God's faithfulness. I've been thinking about this third point a lot lately. Expectancy. What does it mean? What does it look like? I think I've referenced it before, but I'm reading a book that's written specifically for people in a time of ...
