a glimpse...

  • been listening to lots of lifehouse lately... may eventually break down and buy the new album.
  • thoroughly enjoying reading 'a walk in the woods' by bill bryson. he just cracks me up- but it's making me excited for my own appalachian trail adventure next summer!
  • the christmas music and decorations are too much right now. i'm one of those who thinks we shouldn't be slammed in the face with christmas 'til after thanksgiving.
  • never realised how much stress could be relieved by punching and kicking a bag. i feel sorry for the bag sometimes!
  • a trend i'm seeing while being back in the states- a revisiting of things of the past... whether people or places; it's been nice to experience things as a different person than i used to be. a real growth thing!
  • nicole, from new zealand, will be here in almost exactly thirty days. EXCITED.
  • have become a bit obsessive about watching 'gilmore girls' online.
  • am curious to try to sell some stuff on craig's list to make extra cash, but it sorta freaks me out.
  • i'm almost completely done with my christmas shopping. (she says after she claims she doesnt want to hear about it 'til after thanksgiving! ha)
  • i have a stack of ten or more books that are waiting to be read. i need to dig in!
  • i keep forgetting the new harry potter comes out on friday! makes me reminisce the fact that i saw the last one in england with twenty other people!
  • i want to chop my hair off.
  • have been finding my bible much more life giving than i ever have before. especially the old testament.
  • i have drank more pumpkin spice latte's this season than i care to think about!
  • i sat down and read 'the great divorce' one night before going to bed. forgot how much i enjoy it!
  • ooo new narnia is coming out soon, too!
random, i know, but a glimpse into life at the moment. i am continually reminded how blessed i am.

some of my fave texts that i have received while living in england: "there's a program on irish tv tonight called 'death or canada'. i wish i had the energy to stay up and watch it. i may have some tshirts made." "Worse." "Than." "Hitler." "That's bad news bears, my friend. I hope your magic shirts are keeping you warm." "Because we're celebrating Christmas time, leave your shoes out at half past nine. Leave them out until half past ten. Santa should have been by then. (i know what you're thinking, 'why is sarah in bible college when she is so gifted in the literary technique of rhyming?)" "You make me feel. You make me feel. You make me feel like a natural woman." "Should be fun on a bun!" "And stay off the circle line. It is an instrument of the devil." "I'd love a bottle of fruit loops right about now." "I've never seen a movie that...

Expectancy

We have the following Bible verses written on a chalkboard above our kitchen sink: Because of God's tender mercy, the morning light from heaven is about to break upon us, to give light to those who sit in darkness & in the shadow of death, & to guide us to the path of peace. Luke 1:78-78 NLT I chose to write out these verses for a few reasons. First of all, I like the picture it illustrates of God's mercy & how ultimately his mercy & light lead us to peace. Second, these verses speak of hope to me. They say that even in darkness & death there is hope! And last, it reminds me to live every day with expectancy. It says that heaven "is about" to break upon us; it's almost foreshadowing God's faithfulness. I've been thinking about this third point a lot lately. Expectancy. What does it mean? What does it look like? I think I've referenced it before, but I'm reading a book that's written specifically for people in a time of ...
