Love means doing what God has commanded us, and he has commanded us to love one another, just as you heard from the beginning. -2 John 6 NLT

so, this pretty much smacked me right across the face tonight. i don't know why; it's not a new idea. i even wrote an entire paper AND speech on 'loving my neighbor' but tonight this struck me differently. God's commanded us to love. and to love is to obey God and love each other. i wish it were as simple as it sounds. i am really struggling with my job. it's taken me over half of a school year to figure out my whole job is relationship centered. it's not about homework, going to class and getting good grades. it's about connecting with my student and empowering him to make good choices and stand on his own two feet. it's been quite the glimpse into the parenting world, and it's been a struggle. it's hard to work with people. but i know people are very important to God. and this job was something that God wanted me to do. it's amazing how simple that seems, yet how hard it is to walk it out. i guess that is stating the obvious, but i've recently really been mulling all of this over and so i wanted to share.

20 Protect me! Rescue my life from them!
Do not let me be disgraced, for in you I take refuge.
21 May integrity and honesty protect me,
for I put my hope in you.
-Psalm 25 NLT

i guess you could say this has been my prayer lately. i am discovering how often i put up walls to protect myself and how i don't allow God into that. it's a part of my life that i don't trust God with, which is ridiculous. God has continually proven HIS faithfulness and HIS love, but i continually look to myself. so i am in the midst of learning to let go of my own self-defense mechanisms and truly trust that God loves me and protects me; i just have to allow him.

that's all i got tonight. more glimpses into my current life. at the end of the day, i am grateful. and truly blessed.

texts.

some of my fave texts that i have received while living in england: "there's a program on irish tv tonight called 'death or canada'. i wish i had the energy to stay up and watch it. i may have some tshirts made." "Worse." "Than." "Hitler." "That's bad news bears, my friend. I hope your magic shirts are keeping you warm." "Because we're celebrating Christmas time, leave your shoes out at half past nine. Leave them out until half past ten. Santa should have been by then. (i know what you're thinking, 'why is sarah in bible college when she is so gifted in the literary technique of rhyming?)" "You make me feel. You make me feel. You make me feel like a natural woman." "Should be fun on a bun!" "And stay off the circle line. It is an instrument of the devil." "I'd love a bottle of fruit loops right about now." "I've never seen a movie that...

We're all moved in!

Expectancy

We have the following Bible verses written on a chalkboard above our kitchen sink: Because of God's tender mercy, the morning light from heaven is about to break upon us, to give light to those who sit in darkness & in the shadow of death, & to guide us to the path of peace. Luke 1:78-78 NLT I chose to write out these verses for a few reasons. First of all, I like the picture it illustrates of God's mercy & how ultimately his mercy & light lead us to peace. Second, these verses speak of hope to me. They say that even in darkness & death there is hope! And last, it reminds me to live every day with expectancy. It says that heaven "is about" to break upon us; it's almost foreshadowing God's faithfulness. I've been thinking about this third point a lot lately. Expectancy. What does it mean? What does it look like? I think I've referenced it before, but I'm reading a book that's written specifically for people in a time of ...
