sunday thoughts.

..."For truly, I say to you, if you have faith like a grain of mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it will move, and nothing will be impossible for you." --Matthew 17.20 ESV

life is full of opportunities. each day we are faced with decisions, from the simple to the complex. whether you like to plan your steps or not, having a bit of flexibility with each day helps the day go smoother. learning how to react with grace and patience can also make your day go much better.

in coming home, i find myself faced with lots of decisions. i have to decide what to wear each day so that i dont break the dress code rules. i have to decide what to eat. more importantly, i have to decide how i am going to spend my time and who i will spend my time with. i have to decide whether or not to take time out of my day to pray and i have to decide if i'm willing to be obedient to God.

i have been told to not forget this past year of my life and what God did in me during that time. i have been challenged to initiate things that i'd otherwise shy away from. i've been asked to step out of my comfort zone. i continue to get nudged by God to listen and obey what he's asking me to do. and i must say that it's hard. sometimes, the last thing i want to do is stand up in front of church and share something, or ask for prayer. i'd rather sit back and silently pray that God will speak into a situation himself and not use me. that doesnt really work. . part of me, i think, hoped that i would come home and be able to settle back into a more comfortable role than what i had been playing this past year; however, God will not allow that. and deep down, i am thankful.

i dont want to be who i was. and i dont want to forget all that God has done in my entire life, as well as my time at bible college. i was naive to think that i'd stop growing or stop being challenged when i came home... each day i am faced with challenges and i am finding God putting more things on my heart. however, the choice is mine- do i follow his will or go my own way?

as much as i'd sometimes like to go my own way, i know where that leads and i dont want to go back. so i am looking forward. to the future. looking upward towards a God who loves me and wants me to continue to grow. i am looking for opportunities, ways to challenge myself. and i am listening. listening for directions, wisdom and discernment. and even though it is easy to get overwhelmed by it all, i find comfort in knowing that God can use my faith, regardless of how big or small it is. and i praise God for that!

texts.

some of my fave texts that i have received while living in england: "there's a program on irish tv tonight called 'death or canada'. i wish i had the energy to stay up and watch it. i may have some tshirts made." "Worse." "Than." "Hitler." "That's bad news bears, my friend. I hope your magic shirts are keeping you warm." "Because we're celebrating Christmas time, leave your shoes out at half past nine. Leave them out until half past ten. Santa should have been by then. (i know what you're thinking, 'why is sarah in bible college when she is so gifted in the literary technique of rhyming?)" "You make me feel. You make me feel. You make me feel like a natural woman." "Should be fun on a bun!" "And stay off the circle line. It is an instrument of the devil." "I'd love a bottle of fruit loops right about now." "I've never seen a movie that...

We're all moved in!

Expectancy

We have the following Bible verses written on a chalkboard above our kitchen sink: Because of God's tender mercy, the morning light from heaven is about to break upon us, to give light to those who sit in darkness & in the shadow of death, & to guide us to the path of peace. Luke 1:78-78 NLT I chose to write out these verses for a few reasons. First of all, I like the picture it illustrates of God's mercy & how ultimately his mercy & light lead us to peace. Second, these verses speak of hope to me. They say that even in darkness & death there is hope! And last, it reminds me to live every day with expectancy. It says that heaven "is about" to break upon us; it's almost foreshadowing God's faithfulness. I've been thinking about this third point a lot lately. Expectancy. What does it mean? What does it look like? I think I've referenced it before, but I'm reading a book that's written specifically for people in a time of ...
