before i go to sleep.

It's Sunday night and another week is staring at me. I will continue to say how quickly time is passing. We only have three weeks left in this term and then it's break. It just doesn't seem real. I've been in England for almost 4 months and in 4 months from now, I'll be done with college. Scary!

Last week we studied the Kingdom of God. It was really good! It's a topic that I have chosen to do my "major" assignment on for college, so it's something I've been spending quite a bit of time researching and thinking about. It's fascinating to think about the Kingdom, what it means and how it actually plays out in our everyday lives. It's such an important part of being a Christian, yet I think it's something that is often misunderstood. I must say that in doing the research and hearing lectures on it, it's making me look at my own life. It has been challenging to see how the Kingdom plays a part in my life, if at all. I'm happy that I've picked this topic to research and eventually write a paper on, I think I will learn a lot and grow a lot from studying it!

The sun has shown the past two days in Oxford and it's been a fantastic change! Two of my housemates and I did some "yard" work on Saturday morning. We mostly just pulled out the massive amount of weeds we have around our house. It was nice to be outside, doing a bit of work, although, I'm paying for it today with a sore body and blisters on my hands! Today was absolutely gorgeous. I just love walking in the sunshine... closing my eyes and allowing the sun to just shine on my face. It's so relaxing. I didn't realize how much I've missed the sun. It is pretty gray around here on most days, so the past two days have been a treat!

I have found it challenging lately to live in the present. As the end of college nears, the more people are trying to plan for life after college. I still am working on direction for after college, as most people are at the moment. However, I keep feeling like I need to just relax and enjoy where I am right now. The time is going to continue to pass quickly and I don't want to look back at these last few months of college and regret mentally checking out, because I was so focused on the future. I guess it's a good sign that I'm aware of it, now it's just trying to live each day that way.

A few points of interest:
--I can't stop listening to the band called "Tenth Avenue North"
--I'm reading two books at the moment: "Paul, the Spirit & the People of God" and "Eat this Book"
--I've drank 3 cups of tea today
--I'm going to my first "fancy dress" party tomorrow (fancy dress= costume party)
--I'm thinking about getting out my flip flops to wear this week!

And to finish:
For the Kingdom of God is not just a lot of talk; it is living by God's power. -1 Corinthians 4.20 NLT

some of my fave texts that i have received while living in england: "there's a program on irish tv tonight called 'death or canada'. i wish i had the energy to stay up and watch it. i may have some tshirts made." "Worse." "Than." "Hitler." "That's bad news bears, my friend. I hope your magic shirts are keeping you warm." "Because we're celebrating Christmas time, leave your shoes out at half past nine. Leave them out until half past ten. Santa should have been by then. (i know what you're thinking, 'why is sarah in bible college when she is so gifted in the literary technique of rhyming?)" "You make me feel. You make me feel. You make me feel like a natural woman." "Should be fun on a bun!" "And stay off the circle line. It is an instrument of the devil." "I'd love a bottle of fruit loops right about now." "I've never seen a movie that...

Expectancy

We have the following Bible verses written on a chalkboard above our kitchen sink: Because of God's tender mercy, the morning light from heaven is about to break upon us, to give light to those who sit in darkness & in the shadow of death, & to guide us to the path of peace. Luke 1:78-78 NLT I chose to write out these verses for a few reasons. First of all, I like the picture it illustrates of God's mercy & how ultimately his mercy & light lead us to peace. Second, these verses speak of hope to me. They say that even in darkness & death there is hope! And last, it reminds me to live every day with expectancy. It says that heaven "is about" to break upon us; it's almost foreshadowing God's faithfulness. I've been thinking about this third point a lot lately. Expectancy. What does it mean? What does it look like? I think I've referenced it before, but I'm reading a book that's written specifically for people in a time of ...
