quotes.

a few quotes from "chasing daylight" by erwin mcmanus:

When you move with God, He always shows up. It's just difficult to predict what He will do or how He will do it. If you wait for guarantees, the only thing that will be guaranteed is that you will miss endless divine opportunities- that you can know for certain. (p.69)

He calls us out of comfort into uncertainty. Faith is all about character, trusting in the character of God, being certain in who God is and following Him into the unknown. (p.75)

Realize He may actually increase the uncertainty and leverage all the odds against you, just so that you will know in the end that it wasn't your gifts but His power through your gifts that fulfilled His purpose in your life. (p.78)

On this journey one thing becomes certain: when you move forward on what you know, things become clearer. When you refuse to act on what you know, all that you do not know paralyzes you. (p.164)

Some of life's greatest opportunities are not behind doors or windows, but behind walls. (p.183)

Prayer is not about informing God of your needs, nor is it even about trying to convince God to help you. Prayer is about connecting to God. It is about experiencing His presence and moving with Him in intimate communion. Jesus reminded us that God is not callous to our needs. Many times our view on prayer implies that God is unconcerned or apathetic. He gives us the imagery. He contrasted God the Father to the man who refuses to get up to provide bread for a friend, but relents because of the other man's perseverance. God is eager to give us both His gifts and Himself if we will ask Him, yet there is an even greater and more subtle danger in the arena of prayer. It is when prayer is reactive rather than proactive. It is the way we subtly use prayer not to seek God's will, but to delay our obedience to His will. (p.215)

i've really enjoyed this book. some parts were a bit too cheesy for my liking, but he made some good points about making choices and acting even though our situations may not be clear cut for us. i thought this book was appropriate timing for my life right now. i am very much living in the present and living out of faith that God will meet me where i am and lead me down His path.

my prayer at the moment is to know what to do presently. do i stay in korea? do i fly home unexpectedly? my school in oxford starts today. so many questions. so few answers. time to seek God...

texts.

some of my fave texts that i have received while living in england: "there's a program on irish tv tonight called 'death or canada'. i wish i had the energy to stay up and watch it. i may have some tshirts made." "Worse." "Than." "Hitler." "That's bad news bears, my friend. I hope your magic shirts are keeping you warm." "Because we're celebrating Christmas time, leave your shoes out at half past nine. Leave them out until half past ten. Santa should have been by then. (i know what you're thinking, 'why is sarah in bible college when she is so gifted in the literary technique of rhyming?)" "You make me feel. You make me feel. You make me feel like a natural woman." "Should be fun on a bun!" "And stay off the circle line. It is an instrument of the devil." "I'd love a bottle of fruit loops right about now." "I've never seen a movie that...

We're all moved in!

Expectancy

We have the following Bible verses written on a chalkboard above our kitchen sink: Because of God's tender mercy, the morning light from heaven is about to break upon us, to give light to those who sit in darkness & in the shadow of death, & to guide us to the path of peace. Luke 1:78-78 NLT I chose to write out these verses for a few reasons. First of all, I like the picture it illustrates of God's mercy & how ultimately his mercy & light lead us to peace. Second, these verses speak of hope to me. They say that even in darkness & death there is hope! And last, it reminds me to live every day with expectancy. It says that heaven "is about" to break upon us; it's almost foreshadowing God's faithfulness. I've been thinking about this third point a lot lately. Expectancy. What does it mean? What does it look like? I think I've referenced it before, but I'm reading a book that's written specifically for people in a time of ...
