100th post?

i believe this is my 100th post. maybe something profound will come about.

i promised photos of india and i havent followed through. maybe that will be my post number 101.

as i took the bus in and out of seoul last friday i had this sense of closure about the city and about korea. i found myself grieving korea for all its good and all its bad. while going over the han river i looked around at the city, full of millions of people, and wondered if i would ever be there again.

leaving korea last summer was devastating. i think mostly because i knew that a chapter of my life was over. korea was never going to be that way again and i was at a loss. i ended up having the most amazing summer, but even so was anxious to get back to korea. this time around i know that i'm leaving korea permanently. i'm not opposed to living here or coming back to visit, but i dont necessarily ever see that happening. it's strange. i'm sad, but content. i wouldnt change anything. and i guess that's a good feeling.

i told all of my classes today that i was leaving. i got the normal reactions of sorrow and joy, depending on the student. what's odd is how i feel or the lack thereof. i think when i came back this year i tried really hard to not get attached to any one student. i was an emotional basket case by the time i said good-bye to all of my students last year and i was bound and determined not to get close to any students this year. unfortunately, i've done a pretty good job of that. i can honestly say there will be less than 5 students that i'll truly miss from my school this year. that makes me sad.

i am at a loss for words.

transitions into new times in your life are always hard. i dont mind them- God knows i've had quite a few and i'm only going to have more- but it's still tough. i already cry when i hug certain people, knowing that it will soon be the last. i find myself being more observant of others so that i dont forget their little quirks. this year, as a whole, was tough, but i wouldnt change any of it. again, that's a good feeling.

so here's to less than two weeks left in korea. where am i going next? england i hope.. it's amazing how little control i have over the next two weeks of my life. am i flying to chicago? am i flying to london? will paperwork get sorted? will things fall through? is there a different path? or is the timing just off?

i thank God for friends. without my friends and their support, prayers and love, i would be lost. i would be hopeless. i would be hiding under my bed. and even though i'm frustrated beyond belief, i know who is really in control and i find a strange comfort in that.

texts.

some of my fave texts that i have received while living in england: "there's a program on irish tv tonight called 'death or canada'. i wish i had the energy to stay up and watch it. i may have some tshirts made." "Worse." "Than." "Hitler." "That's bad news bears, my friend. I hope your magic shirts are keeping you warm." "Because we're celebrating Christmas time, leave your shoes out at half past nine. Leave them out until half past ten. Santa should have been by then. (i know what you're thinking, 'why is sarah in bible college when she is so gifted in the literary technique of rhyming?)" "You make me feel. You make me feel. You make me feel like a natural woman." "Should be fun on a bun!" "And stay off the circle line. It is an instrument of the devil." "I'd love a bottle of fruit loops right about now." "I've never seen a movie that...

We're all moved in!

Expectancy

We have the following Bible verses written on a chalkboard above our kitchen sink: Because of God's tender mercy, the morning light from heaven is about to break upon us, to give light to those who sit in darkness & in the shadow of death, & to guide us to the path of peace. Luke 1:78-78 NLT I chose to write out these verses for a few reasons. First of all, I like the picture it illustrates of God's mercy & how ultimately his mercy & light lead us to peace. Second, these verses speak of hope to me. They say that even in darkness & death there is hope! And last, it reminds me to live every day with expectancy. It says that heaven "is about" to break upon us; it's almost foreshadowing God's faithfulness. I've been thinking about this third point a lot lately. Expectancy. What does it mean? What does it look like? I think I've referenced it before, but I'm reading a book that's written specifically for people in a time of ...
