the philippines.

the lunar new year (aka: chinese new year) was a long vacation for us this year, so my friend, emma, and i went to the philippines for a few days. naomi, another dear friend, was supposed to join us, but because of the misplacement of her passport; she was not able to go. :<

we spent the majority of our time on the island of boracay. it was gorgeous. the white sand beach was almost the entire length of the island. we were amazed by the clear, blue waters and the gorgeous, bright skies. within thirty minutes of arriving on the island we were on the beach, exploring the new place.

our time on boracay was a good one. we spent a lot of time relaxing. we spent time reading books and enjoying God's beauty around us. what i loved about the trip was that emma and i didnt have to talk all the time. we spent a lot of time in silence, just enjoying our surroundings and soaking up the marvels around us. it was probably one of the most relaxing vacations i have ever been on.

each night was a beautiful sunset, which led to a wonderful night sky lit up by stars. i miss stars. each night we'd walk along the beach and find a new place to have dinner. we ate at restaurants that set up tables and chairs actually on the beach. it was a relaxing way to eat dinner and to just enjoy the scenery. we fell in love with these fresh fruit shakes that were delicious! i also had my first french crepe, which was amazing! we also took advantage of the cheap san miguel beer. ^^

what i loved the most about the philippines were the people. everyone was friendly and spoke english. i was really put-off by it at first, sort of questioning their motives, but i found the flippino people very helpful and friendly. the land was also beautiful. it was green and full of palm trees. we could not have asked for better weather. it was perfect every day.

neither of us were very eager to come back to the cold, korean winter, but we knew it was inevitable. i was just really thankful to have the time away, especially to this wonderful place. God really blessed us with this trip and the time we got to spend together.

now that i'm back in korea, i am happy to be back. it's always nice to sleep in your own bed and to not live out of a back-pack. (or try to sleep while hundreds of mosquitoes try to eat you!) however, i do miss the sound of the waves crashing on the beach and the sand beneath my feet..

i guess i'll just have to find somewhere warm to go... *^^*

texts.

some of my fave texts that i have received while living in england: "there's a program on irish tv tonight called 'death or canada'. i wish i had the energy to stay up and watch it. i may have some tshirts made." "Worse." "Than." "Hitler." "That's bad news bears, my friend. I hope your magic shirts are keeping you warm." "Because we're celebrating Christmas time, leave your shoes out at half past nine. Leave them out until half past ten. Santa should have been by then. (i know what you're thinking, 'why is sarah in bible college when she is so gifted in the literary technique of rhyming?)" "You make me feel. You make me feel. You make me feel like a natural woman." "Should be fun on a bun!" "And stay off the circle line. It is an instrument of the devil." "I'd love a bottle of fruit loops right about now." "I've never seen a movie that...

Expectancy

We have the following Bible verses written on a chalkboard above our kitchen sink: Because of God's tender mercy, the morning light from heaven is about to break upon us, to give light to those who sit in darkness & in the shadow of death, & to guide us to the path of peace. Luke 1:78-78 NLT I chose to write out these verses for a few reasons. First of all, I like the picture it illustrates of God's mercy & how ultimately his mercy & light lead us to peace. Second, these verses speak of hope to me. They say that even in darkness & death there is hope! And last, it reminds me to live every day with expectancy. It says that heaven "is about" to break upon us; it's almost foreshadowing God's faithfulness. I've been thinking about this third point a lot lately. Expectancy. What does it mean? What does it look like? I think I've referenced it before, but I'm reading a book that's written specifically for people in a time of ...
