it's been surreal... but nice.

as i sit here, drinking a beer, pondering over what's going on in my life; i am amazed. this summer wasnt anything like i expected it to be. for one thing, it flew by. and i dont mean, i was just super busy and i cant believe it's over. i mean, i actually feel like my summer barely existed. i know in another month or two i am going to look back and actually think, "oh yeah, i was at home this summer." and i dont mean that in a negative way towards my summer or those whom i shared it with; i just really cant believe that i'm leaving tomorrow.

some days korea feels like a dream. other days i long for korea like i would long for a missing limb. and i guess part of me is just dreading the fact that i'm going to feel the same way about leaving indiana. my aunt looked at me last night and said, "have a safe trip home." wow, korea is my home? or my uncle was telling me to "have a nice trip," but then retracted his statement and said, "well, i guess it isnt a trip, is it? this is your life now, huh?!" and i just stood back and was amazed at that profound thought. no, this isnt just some vacation. this is my life. and it's not like i'm just floating around and hoping that one day i land and settle. this is it. and i guess it's just been amazing because i have finally seen people accepting that this summer. they may not like it, they may miss me, but they support me and are happy that i'm happy. and that means the world to me.

looking back at arriving home in june and all of the emotions i was feeling, and comparing them to now, two months later; i can honestly say that i feel very similar. i am anxious to go back to korea, but i mean that in a nervous way. i am excited, but i'm also scared. i know things arent going to be the same, but i also know that God provides wherever i go and i cannot be afraid. i am really excited that i have the opportunity to catch up with friends whom i left in korea... i am excited to work with new students at a new school... i am excited to see whom God chooses to place into my life this year and how those people will affect me... i think this year is going to be full of many exciting things. i think the anticipation is just killing me.

at any rate, in less than 48 hours i will be back on the korean peninsula and in a few weeks i will feel like i never left. but with that said- i must admit that this was one of the best summers ever, if not the best. i am so thankful for my time i've had with everyone. my only wish is that i could have had a little bit more. i am also thankful that i have been able to reconnect with friends from the past and grow closer to others. i have many amazing people in my life, and this summer just really reiterated that.

so, i guess this is it. my last blog entry from the states for awhile. for those i am leaving behind, i love you, i will miss you, and i only wish i could be in a million different places at once. and for those of you whom i'm coming to- i'm excited to catch up again and to spend more time together in the krazy land of kimchi.

until next time... God bless...

texts.

some of my fave texts that i have received while living in england: "there's a program on irish tv tonight called 'death or canada'. i wish i had the energy to stay up and watch it. i may have some tshirts made." "Worse." "Than." "Hitler." "That's bad news bears, my friend. I hope your magic shirts are keeping you warm." "Because we're celebrating Christmas time, leave your shoes out at half past nine. Leave them out until half past ten. Santa should have been by then. (i know what you're thinking, 'why is sarah in bible college when she is so gifted in the literary technique of rhyming?)" "You make me feel. You make me feel. You make me feel like a natural woman." "Should be fun on a bun!" "And stay off the circle line. It is an instrument of the devil." "I'd love a bottle of fruit loops right about now." "I've never seen a movie that...

We're all moved in!

Expectancy

We have the following Bible verses written on a chalkboard above our kitchen sink: Because of God's tender mercy, the morning light from heaven is about to break upon us, to give light to those who sit in darkness & in the shadow of death, & to guide us to the path of peace. Luke 1:78-78 NLT I chose to write out these verses for a few reasons. First of all, I like the picture it illustrates of God's mercy & how ultimately his mercy & light lead us to peace. Second, these verses speak of hope to me. They say that even in darkness & death there is hope! And last, it reminds me to live every day with expectancy. It says that heaven "is about" to break upon us; it's almost foreshadowing God's faithfulness. I've been thinking about this third point a lot lately. Expectancy. What does it mean? What does it look like? I think I've referenced it before, but I'm reading a book that's written specifically for people in a time of ...
